The SOAR projects cover a wide range of applications and exploit the new capabilities of RADARSAT-2. For example, many investigators have selected quad-polarized data to test what new information can be garnered from this dataset. A quick overview of the projects follows:
- 14 applications in total are being investigated. Of the projects, 10% fall under Disaster Management studies, 12% fall under Environmental studies, and 15% fall under Agriculture.
- The geographic locations of the areas of interest span the globe and cover every continent
- 50% of the projects will use quad-pol data
- 56% of the projects focus on new application development
- 38% of the projects focus on improving current operational applications
