Overview
Guidelines
Case Studies
Winds VV
  • Provides the optimal information for wind field extraction
Currents VV
  • Using satellite Doppler information, ocean current speed (either toward or away from the radar) can be obtained
Ship Surveillance Beam Mode
  • ScanSAR and Wide beam modes provide wide-area surveillance
  • Fine beam mode provides high-resolution coverage for specific regions-of-interest
VV - VH
  • VV provides adequate ocean clutter to allow wake analysis for most accessible incidence angles
HH - HV
  • Optimal ship detection based on the target to clutter ratio is:
    • HV for incidence angles < 45 degrees
    • HH for incidence angles > 45 degrees
Quad-Pol
  • Expected to provide improved ship target detection and possible classification when combined with Ultra-Fine beam mode
Oil Spill Detection VV
  • Provides better contrast than either HH or HV
